“Cobra Kai” Season 5: Sean Kanan (Karate Kid III) returns as Mike Barnes

Cobra Kai’s Karate Kid film reunion tour will be continue in season 5, with Sean Kanan set to reprise his role as villainous Mike Barnes from Part III.

Kanan’s long-awaited casting has been confirmed in a first wave of photos from Season 5 (below), which also highlight the new addition of Alicia Hannah-Kim (Naughty) Kim Da-Eun, a formidable South Korean sensei who takes notice of Terry Silver’s plans to accelerate the expansion of Cobra Kai.

A new trailer was also released; watch it at TUDUM.

The arrival of Daytime-TV vet Kanan was very quietly hinted at in one of Season 4’s closing moments, when Silver (played by Thomas Ian Griffith) told a Kreese (Martin Kove) in prison, “I I’ll call a couple of old Cobra Kai buddies to help you out while you’re gone.

Following the result of Season 4’s All Valley Tournament, Silver expands the Cobra Kai empire and tries to make his “No Mercy” style of karate the only game in town. With Kreese behind bars and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) putting karate aside to focus on repairing the damage he’s caused, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) calls on an old friend for help – the former opponent Chozen Toguchi, again played by Karate Kid Part IIThis is Yuji Okumoto.

Chozen was last seen in the Season 4 finale, bowing at Mr. Miyagi’s grave alongside Daniel. In an earlier Season 5 teaser, when Terry tells Daniel he’s playing with fire, Chozen warns Silver, “And I’m gasoline.”

Teaser of the evolutionary alliances of season 5, Cobra Kai Executive producers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg said in a statement: “As Terry Silver enlists old friends to put the valley in a vice, Daniel and Johnny are going to need all the help they can get to stop Cobra. Kai in his footsteps.
