On October 7, Dave Mustaine, lead singer of heavy metal band, Megadeth received his BJJ brown belt from Reginaldo Almeida at Gracie Barra Spring Hill.
A black belt in 4th degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Almeida also promoted Mustaine to blue and purple belt, with the 61-year-old guitarist receiving his purple belt in January 2021.
Almeida shared the good news by posting a video of him tying Mustaine’s new brown belt around his waist, and a photo of himself with the rocker on Instagram which captioned:
“Congrats @davemustaine,” he wrote. “We all know how difficult it is to stay focused and work towards our goals. But with small steady steps we will get there! A little closer! #brownbelt #backstagebjj #ontheroad #bjj #graciebarra #iamgbsh #iamgbctn # megadeth #metal #guitar #music”.
Mustaine also posted the same photo, captioned:
“Behind every mountain there are more mountains.”
A longtime public defender of the martial arts, Mustaine also holds black belts in Ukidokan Karate, Songhai Taekwondo and the World Taekwondo Federation.
Mustaine was recently battling throat cancer and throughout it all he has been successful and has done some pretty amazing things over the past 12 months. After announcing he was cured of cancer, the 61-year-old rocker earned his purple belt, followed by his brown belt, released a new album called “The Sick, The Dying…And The Dead!” and trained alongside a tight touring schedule with headlining band Five Finger Death Punch – quite remarkable!
