MANILA, Philippines â The country’s most successful athlete during the pandemic is set to beat his own online winning record.
On November 6, James delos Santos, world number one in electronic karate, will win his 37th gold medal at the electronic athlete tournament.
He has expressed his confidence to achieve it, but Delos Santos, 31, admitted that leveling up is getting harder and harder.
“I was nervous in the final results of the Okinawa World Series, I ended up tied with Morocco,” Delos Santos told the Inquirer.
He was referring to the Moroccan Abdellatif Choukri who had to settle for silver after the judges awarded the gold to Delos Santos “by flag system”.
Matching his 36 gold medals last year wasn’t easy for the Philippine Sportswriters Association winner.
After winning 14 consecutive tournaments in early 2021, Delos Santos suffered four losses and missed a competition.
His biggest setback came two weeks ago when he placed fifth in E-SportsDate World Series # 6.
In his three other losses, Delos Santos recovered the silver medal.
âThere are still goals I set for myself, and one of them surpasses my performance last year,â said Delos Santos.
Over the next few weeks, he also manages to accomplish this.
