Dominic Perrottet set to become the next premier of New South Wales

It looks like NSW has found its next premier: treasurer Dominique Perrottet, who announced his candidacy for the coveted spot on Sunday night.

According to the ABC, Perrottet has struck a deal with the Liberal faction leaders who will see the minister from Western Sydney, Stuart ayres, become the Deputy Liberal Leader, with the Minister of the Environment Matt Kean become treasurer.

“I know this is a challenging time in our state, but I have every hope and optimism that NSW is in a very good place,” he said, according to the ABC.

Although he didn’t announce his intentions right away, Perrottet was pretty much assumed to be the former premier of NSW Gladys Berejiklianthe successor to just after his shocking resignation.

It has already been approved by the former prime minister John howard, who said he was the right man for the job. Which honestly is a red flag if I’ve ever seen one.

“I think his background, his experience as treasurer and, most importantly, his commitment to economic reform means he’s the best person to take the helm,” Howard told Sky News.

“I’m not criticizing them … but I hope Dom gets the green light.”

In case you’re not sure exactly who Perrottet is or what he stands for, here’s a recap of a few notable moments:

Minister of the Environment Matt Kean, who would be the deputy, is center-right. Which will likely attract voices from those initially reluctant to line up on the right.

The results will be official on Tuesday, but look – Perrottet basically has this in the bag.
