The city of Goyang takes Taekwondo to new heights.
He is co-hosting, with the Korea Taekwondo Association, the 2021 Taekwondo Education and Industry Fair at the Korea International Exhibition Center this weekend.
“From taekwondo training gear to trendy uniforms and even sports massage technology, the convention has everything the industry has to offer.”
“Our sound wave massage technology is already being used by athletes and coaches in the US and Europe. It would be nice to see our injury prevention products in Korea as well … being used not only by members of the national team but also by ordinary students. “
Designed to save national sport, which is reeling from the pandemic, the convention is a breath of fresh air, especially for taekwondo instructors and universities that have had their fair share of gym closures.
“Taekwondo struggles in a contactless world under the pandemic. The meaning of this convention lies in reversing this trend.”
Along with seminars and dozens of exhibition stands, virtual reality game consoles are also on display, providing visitors with a hands-on experience.
Most importantly, the highlight of the convention is taekwondo itself.
On Saturday, elite demonstration teams performed their high-flying kicks and acrobatic flips, smashing wooden planks and mesmerizing those in attendance.
Among those in attendance was the head of the Korea Taekwondo Association, Yang Jin-bang, who expressed interest in the upcoming 2022 Poomsae World Taekwondo Championships, or Technical Model, which will also be held in Goyang.
“Next year we will try to take the convention beyond Korea and globalize it by jointly hosting the Poomsae event and world championships.”
World Taekwondo, the international governing body for sport, is moving its headquarters to the city within four to five years.
So, for Goyang, the 2021 Taekwondo Education and Industry Fair is another step towards its consolidation as a new hotbed of martial art.
