The Guam Taekwondo Center and the ROK Consulate are teaming up to host the inaugural Korean Consul’s Cup with Taekwondo Master Noly Caluag.
The center and Master Noly continue to celebrate 20 years of teaching more than 2,000 students and promoting more than 135 black belts on the island, according to a statement from the center.
The cup will include the 6th Annual Martial Arts Weapons Tournament and Taekwondo’s first Quick Kick Tournament at 1 p.m. on August 13 at the Micronesia Mall. Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, Lieutenant Governor Joshua Tenorio and Chief of Mission In Kook Kim of the ROK Consulate will attend.
The Martial Arts Weapons Tournament will see competitors demonstrate the use of traditional martial arts weapons like nunchucks, bo staff and arnis-eskrima. For the Taekwondo Speed Kicking Tournament, athletes will perform as many Taekwondo kicks in a time frame and will be judged by the accuracy, quantity, height and difficulty of the kicks according to the release. Each legitimate kick will score one point with additional points available for head kicks and any spinning or spinning kicks.
Veteran black belts Jed Caluag and Ryan Gaza will lead the Guam Taekwondo Center demonstration team, according to the release.
