There are several notable boxing events taking place today.
Controversial promotion Triller Fight Club is set to return for the first time since May. The successful promotion was going to be closed following their Sergei Kovalev main event card earlier this year, but they’ve changed course instead.
The promotion is expected to have a pay-per-view later tonight at Memorial Hall in Kansas City. Headlining the event is undefeated prospect, James McKenzie Morrison. The son of the legendary Tommy Morrison, he is best known for knocking out Hasim Rahman Jr. earlier this year.
Opposite the undefeated heavyweight is Robert Simms, who has won four of his last fights. Beyond the main event, a host of other prospects are slated for the undercard, including Steve Cunningham Jr. and Gerald McClellan Jr.
However, Triller Fight Club isn’t the only one hosting a card tonight; there’s another map on DAZN today. Promoted by Matchroom Boxing, fans will be able to see the return of Mauricio Lara. ‘Bronco’ is on a 14-fight unbeaten streak, including a high-profile win over Josh Warrington.
Standing across from the featherweight contender is the durable Jose Sanmartin, who has won his last seven fights. Beyond the main event, the most prominent fighter in the undercard is Reshat Mati. The undefeated prospect will return to take on Eduardo Rodriguez.
What’s the biggest boxing match tonight?
If fans can only tune in to one boxing match tonight, they’ll want to tune into DAZN.
No offense to the Triller Fight Club card, as there are plenty of great prospects for this event in Kansas City. However, the Matchroom Boxing card is better on paper, and the main event is by far the most important boxing match of this weekend.
Mauricio Lara could very well be the greatest featherweight on the planet right now, as evidenced by his knockout victory over Josh Warrington. In their subsequent rematch, ‘Bronco’ dominated before an accidental headbutt ended the fight.
Since then, the Mexican has picked up a knockout victory over Emilio Sanchez. Lara hopes that with a big knockout victory tonight, he can seize an ever-elusive title opportunity.
However, it won’t be easy, as Jose Sanmartin is a badass for just about everyone. While the featherweight has lost five times in his career, he has only lost the best. He’s also hitting his stride at the right time, given his current knockout streak.
As both men battle for a shot at gold, there’s no doubt fans might want to tune in to DAZN tonight.
