JKA Karate wins 20 medals at national championships

A 16-person team from JKA Timaru Karate won 20 medals at the National Karate Championships in Christchurch over the weekend.

Of the 20 medals, nine were gold and were won by Harper Lindsay, Sierra Wilkinson, Ethan Box, Hayley Chang, Jessica Box, Josephine Yeo, Jason Box and sensei Lizelle Pelser (two).

About 300 karatekas participated from all over the country, and it was a great achievement to come away with such a medal haul, said Pelser, adding that the chief instructor of all JKA New Zealand, sensei Karl Naoroji, was extremely proud of their accomplishments.
