Karate Kids Kick Off the Year of Competition in Style

Head Coach Kevan Mitchinson and his daughter Eleisha accept the team award on behalf of Dokan Karate Club.

Although it was only their second competition of the year, the youngsters showed no signs of being rusty – they won 17 gold, 21 silver and 28 bronze in individual and team competitions.

Their performances saw Dokan top the club’s medal table – ahead of more than 50 other teams on a day that saw more than 500 youngsters compete.

Dokan’s head instructor, Kevan Mitchinson, said: “Of the 33 students we eliminated, half were novices, so it was a testing day for everyone, despite the whole day being s went extremely well.

“They pulled it off brilliantly and we ended the day as the most successful club, which was very nice.”

He added: “The youngsters excelled. It was a kind of gamble, it was a gamble to enroll so many lower level students, but it paid off.

“I’m super happy with them.
