The nation’s largest and most prestigious taekwondo competition – the 45th SMART Sports Foundation/MVP National Taekwondo Championships – will be held September 3-4 at Ayala Malls-Manila Bay in Pasay City.
The organizing Philippine Taekwondo Association announced that more than 2,000 taekwondo jins from 20 different regions, including BARMM, CAR, CARAGA and the National Capital Region, as well as all branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, including Philippine National Police, members of Team Philippines and major collegiate leagues such as UAAP and NCAA are confirmed to participate in the two-day event supported by the Philippine Athletic Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee and MILO.
The competition comprises Advance & Novice category for men and women with four (4) divisions namely Senior, Junior, Cadet and Grade School. The event is an individual competition.
PTA said the tournament will use the KPNP taekwondo refereeing system as the protection and scoring system (PSS) with the IVR (Instant Video Replay) system used in all PTA tournaments to ensure fairness and eliminate human error. .
Martial arts enthusiasts, sports enthusiasts and children who want to learn the sport are welcome to attend the event, which is due to start at 9 a.m. after an elaborate opening ceremony. The Philippines Show Team will perform at 1 p.m.
