ISLAMABAD, June 17: The strong Pakistani taekwondo team will participate in three international taekwondo championships which will be held from June 22 to July 02 in South Korea.
Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) President Col. (R) Raja Wasim Ahmed Janjua says Pakistan Taekwondo Team is ready for the formidable challenges of the upcoming 7th Asian Poomsae, 25th Asian Kyorugi and Chuncheon Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships 2022, events are scheduled to start in South Korea from June 22 and the team will depart for Korea on June 20.
The contingent includes Raja Wasim Ahmed (PTF Chairman) and Omar Saeed (Pakistan Taekwondo Federation CEO) along with seven Kyorugi players including Mazhar Abbas, Hamzah Omar Saeed, Muhammad Iqbal, Haroon Khan and Shahzaib Khan. Fateemaah Tuz Zahraa Khawar and Zoya Sabir are also part of the two-fighter contingent in the Kyorugi category.
He said that the three-member Poomsae team consisting of Muhammad Wasim Jawed, Shahzaib Ahmed and Flower Zaheer will compete in the 7th Asian Poomsae Championship.
Raja Wasim Ahmed said team officials will attend the ATU board meeting and the ATU general assembly on June 22.
PTF President Raja Wasim Ahmed said the federation held a 10-day training camp for these players in Iran in June, which aimed to prepare the players for the upcoming Asian Championship in Korea.
The Asian Poomsae event will kick off in Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province on June 23, while the 25th Asian Taekwondo Kyorugi Championship will be held from June 24 to 27 in Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province, Korea. Also, the 2022 Chuncheon Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships will start on June 29 and run until July 5.
On the other hand, Poomsae Kukkiwon Coach Master SEONGOH CHOI (Korea) and three other Poomsae players namely M Waseem Jawed, Shahbaz Ahmed and Flower Zaheer will continue to participate in the training camp in Korea for 15 days. They will be back home on July 17.
Meanwhile, Team Leader and CEO of Pakistan Taekwondo Federation Mr. Omar Saeed said the team is optimistic and well prepared for the event and will do well in these international level events.
He said the team received intensive training and also international exposure ahead of these prestigious championships in Korea.
