Rich tribute paid to JRD Tata on the occasion of his 118th birthday

Tata Steel celebrated the 118th birthday of Bharat Ratna JRD Tata on Friday by paying tribute to the legend and organizing a host of activities such as sports, quizzes, plantings, community events and more. at all of its operating sites.

Tribute was paid to JRD Tata at Sonari Airport in Jamshedpur by Ruchi Narendran along with other dignitaries. The celebration was held in a hybrid mode where employees also paid their respects virtually via the company intranet in addition to in-person tributes at various other company locations.

Considering JRD’s lifelong support for sports, employees and cadets of sports facilities run by Tata Steel along with other stakeholders from all sites participated in various sports activities like running, walking, badminton , athletics, archery, football, karate, volleyball, etc.

Tata Steel Sports Department organized a walkathon for the citizens of Jamshedpur at JRD Tata Sports Complex. A total of 248 people attended the event. Additionally, a one-of-a-kind athletics event including an athletics meet for trans employees was held at JRD Tata Sports Complex as a build-up to the main event. A total of 52 trans employees participated in the athletic meet.

Students of Tata Steel Karate Training Center competed in the 2nd Jharkhand State Open Karate Championship on July 27-28 at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur. The Championship organized by Jharkhand State Karate Do Association and supported by Tata Steel Sports Department to mark the occasion saw the participation of 52 cadets from Tata Steel Karate Training Center participated in this Championship.

The Tata Steel Foundation organized an inter-school football tournament for boys under 14 at the Agrico ground, where senior officials from the Tata workers’ union were also present on occasion.

Sitting and drawing, essay writing and painting competitions were held in Sijua in Jharia division attended by a total of 80 youths from the villages. Tata Steel has organized planting campaigns in Kalinganagar, Meramandali and Noamundi. A blood donation camp was also held in a few locations to mark the day. The company has also distributed aids and devices to more than 30 leprosy patients at SPARSH centre, Jamadoba. A multi-specialty health check-up camp was also organized by Tata Steel Hospital, Noamundi at Dudhbila village.
