Discussions of a split or “chill” in the long-standing and massively successful association between new champion SA trainer Justin Snaith and top jockey Richard Fourie have been around for over a week now.
The Sports post received many questions from readers, as the horse racing rumor mill inevitably spawns various conspiracy theories almost daily.
At a glance, the reality of the top team commitments in Cape Riding certainly tells something of a story.
At Kenilworth on Tuesday, Fourie only raced for the mighty yard in two of the six races contested by their ten riders that day.
This coming Saturday, only one of the six rides from Fourie to Kenilworth is destined for Snaith.
On Friday at Fairview, the four Snaith runners will be ridden by Fourie.
A spokesperson for the team told the Sports post in a brief response to a question posed to them on Monday whether it was correct that the suit separated, it was that they “still use it a lot”.
“He’s driving everything to Fairview on Friday. He is a high level jockey, “he added.
Last season, Fourie rode 103 winners for Snaith at a strike rate of 19.04%.
On Saturday, Intrepid was their 30th winner for the family operation this quarter – their strike rate is currently just over 21%.
The Jonsson Workwear-sponsored Fourie has ridden 58 total winners this season and is currently number four on the national newspaper.
