Warner Bros. shares the first image of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai
It’s been more than three years since Warner Bros. announced Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, but the prequel anime series is finally getting closer to a premiere. Warner Bros. shared the first image in the series, which features a younger version of Gizmo in Shanghai. Presumably, this is also an indication of the animation style of the series.
Additionally, Warner Bros. Animation and Amblin Television have announced that the first episode of the series will premiere at the Annecy International Animation Festival in June. The series’ HBO Max debut will likely follow later this summer. However, HBO Max hasn’t set a specific date for the series on its schedule.
As stated above, this series will be a prequel to the original Gremlins movie. In addition to Gizmo, the show will feature Sam Wing, a ten-year-old kid who becomes Gizomo’s elderly owner in the first film. Gizmo and Sam first meet in 1920 on the streets of Shanghai. Together they embark on a journey across China to reunite Gizmo with his family and possibly find some lost treasure as well. However, they will find themselves opposed by a wealthy industrialist and his personal army of Gremlins.
Izaac Wang will star in the series as Sam Wing, with Ming-Na Wen as Fong Wing, BD Wong as Hon Wing, James Hong as Grandpa Wing, Matthew Rhys as Riley Greene, Gabrielle Nevaeh Green as Elle, and AJ Locascio as Gizmo. .
Original Gremlins Director Joe Dante is a consulting producer for the show, which is produced by Tze Chun and Brendan Hay. Dante, Chun and Hay will also be at the Annecy International Animation Festival The secrets of Mogwai first for a question-and-answer session.
